Indigenous Education Council Capacity Building

In collaboration with Ian Caplette through Orcaspirit Leadership Consulting, I support capacity-building processes with Indigenous Education Councils and education partners on the North Island. This work includes designing and facilitating sessions that strengthen governance practices, clarify roles and responsibilities, support communication pathways, and build shared understanding of council purpose and function.

Decolonial and Reconciliation-Focused Learning

I design and facilitate learning experiences that support participants in deepening their understanding of colonization, reconciliation, Indigenous rights, relational accountability, and institutional responsibility. As a non-Indigenous facilitator, I am attentive to my positionality and the boundaries of what is appropriate for me to hold. Much of this work focuses on settler responsibility and creating entry points for non-Indigenous participants to examine their roles within colonial systems and reconciliation-focused practice.

Wherever possible, I collaborate with Indigenous leaders, colleagues, and friends. I only facilitate reconciliation-focused learning without an Indigenous colleague present when it is appropriate to the context, audience, and purpose of the session. Rather than offering simple awareness-building, these sessions invite participants to reflect, examine the systems they work within, and identify practical ways to shift everyday practice toward more respectful, reciprocal, and accountable relationships.

Curriculum Design and Learning Experience Development

I support teams and departments in designing learning experiences, courses, and curriculum that are relational, accessible, and grounded in clear learning outcomes. This includes reconciliation-focused professional development, student researcher training, recreation curriculum, and applied learning experiences.

My approach combines big-picture educational design with practical implementation. I help groups clarify what learners need to understand, feel, practice, and apply, then translate those goals into meaningful learning activities, assessments, resources, and facilitation plans.

Program Review, Planning, and Institutional Change

I facilitate program review, strategic planning, and collaborative planning processes that help groups make sense of where they are, where they are going, and what steps are needed next. This work includes guiding conversations, synthesizing themes, identifying priorities, and supporting groups to translate reflection into action.

My facilitation style emphasizes relationship-building, honest dialogue, shared responsibility, and practical outcomes. I aim to create processes where people feel heard while also helping the group move toward clarity and decision-making.

Applied Research and Community Engagement

I facilitate collaborative applied research processes that bring together academic, community, municipal, and organizational partners. This includes supporting conversations across different knowledge systems, identifying shared priorities, and translating research insights into useful strategies, resources, and next steps.

My applied research facilitation is grounded in relational accountability, careful listening, and a commitment to ensuring that research processes are responsive to the communities and partners involved.

Outdoor Safety and Experiential Learning

Drawing on my background in outdoor recreation leadership and experience as a BC AdventureSmart Educator, I also facilitate workshops related to outdoor safety, risk awareness, environmental responsibility, and experiential learning. These sessions support participants in building confidence, preparedness, and deeper connection to the places where they live, learn, and recreate.
